Flight Training: Training

Training for a PPL(H) or a type Conversion

We have two accessible training schools; Cranfield Airport, in Bedfordshire (just off junction 14 of the M1) and Gloucestershire Airport in Gloucestershire (just off junction 10 or 11 of the M5).

Qualified and experienced instructors, including our CAA Authorised Examiner, carry out all our training in-house.

We offer flight training courses to suit all ages and abilities, from the initial experience of a Trial Lesson to a full Private Pilot's Licence. Our training is tailored to suit you, ranging from full time courses to a more leisurely program. If you are a licence holder and/or aircraft owner we also run Helicopter Type Conversion courses and Robinson safety courses.

If you would like to learn to fly a helicopter, a trial lesson will give you the opportunity to experience the sensation of rotary flight and discuss your individual training needs with an experienced instructor. You will also get the chance to tour our facilities and ask any questions you might have.

Most students chose to learn to fly in a Robinson R22 two-seat helicopter as the most effective option. The Robinson R44 four-seat helicopter is a larger aircraft so it can offer a more comfortable flight and take passengers.

Our courses comprise in-flight training and ground study. Your instructor will guide your through each lesson and make sure you have a full understanding of what you are about to do, whether it is a flight or ground exam.

For experienced pilots we offer turbine conversion courses. They are designed to introduce new owners and pilots to the range of Bell helicopters, including the 206, 407, and 429. Ab-Initio training can also be undertaken on the Bell JetRanger.
